KeymasterProblem Description
It has been reported that the XDLC Module has had instances where the card fail LED has
been seen lit on the card but does not post a trouble back to the PMI (this is found on
Modular systems with Zeus rev 14.01 and 14.02).The Field is also reporting that the XDLC Module is posting intermittent Device
Communication Loop Fail troubles (along with card fail LED), which can be found on Zeus
rev 14.03 systems.Although, it can cause these nuisance trouble activities on the system, testing has
determined that it does not affect the ability of the card to respond in an alarm condition or
other off-normal conditions.Problem Explanation
Initially we had seen that customers had been returning failed XDLC cards with illuminated
CARD FAIL LEDs. No fault messages associated with this trouble were reported at the PMI
panel. From the initial investigation, It was found that a trouble flag bit was being sent from the
XDLC’s to the PMI, but this flag was not associated with any PMI messages, so it was not
reported at the panel. As a result, a FW change was implemented and released in early 2020
as part of the Modular’s Market Release MR1.2. The XDLC application FW (ver. 1.1.6) was
updated to associate this flag with an existing trouble message; “DEVICE
COMMUNICATION LOOP FAULT”.As a result, the fault was visible, and customers started reporting the issue more frequently.
After that change, fault messages started to come in and out intermittently and we started to
see reports at several locations that caused us to further investigate.the investigation into the issue has determined that a quality issue with a particular IC chip
has resulted in XDLC boards potentially experiencing this condition. The quality issue stems
from the presence of moisture found in one of the IC Chips used on the XDLC board
The issue seems to be most apparent on XDLC cards that are wired in a Class B
configuration and with more heavily populated circuits (greater than 180 devices) but is not
limited to those parameters. The suspect IC could have been used in manufacturing within the period of 2018 through
mid-2020 but tracking down to this level is not done, so we do not have an exact
manufacturing window or date-code range that is affected.Solution
Siemens is advising customers if they have an XDLC Module exhibits the Device
Communication Loop Fault troubles or Card Fail LED lit, to replace it. Returned boards and
replacements can be handled by the normal RMA and Special Labor Relief processes
currently in place. Contact your dedicated Customer Service Rep .
Special Labor Relief Program details can be found in PLN PI-07-20Affected Parts
